Their website includes a number of pages of interest, beginning with an interesting biography that emphasizes Villa's French connection.
While the piano trios are early works (the second was written in 1915 and the third in 1918), I've always enjoyed listening to them.
In the piano trios Villa was relaxing and enjoying himself, perhaps since he only had the three instruments to keep track of.

Villa Lobos considered that Brazilian music had certain qualities which were characteristic of the St Thomas Cantor musician and wrote this music to try to draw this quality out without direct imitation.
But some of Villa Lobo's best music is his solo guitar works which demonstrate a profound knowledge of the instrument and to which are arguably the instruments most popular works of the 20th century repetoire.

Learning music from his father, who was a widely-read, highly-cultured amateur of music (and a librarian[1]), Villa Lobos by the turn of the century had turned himself into a professional musician.
As a composer and conductor of his own music, Villa Lobos was lionized from Los Angeles to New York to Paris.
