  The Village (2004)
The population of a small, isolated countryside village believe that their alliance with the mythical creatures that inhabit the forest around them is coming to an end.
Although many have made scathing remarks about the ending of "The Village", it is perhaps his most perfect since "The Sixth Sense"; though by no means a huge surprise, it nevertheless settles into the ambiance and leaves the film with a tinge of melancholy that belies the trailers.
"The Village" is about these people, this community living in fear, not the monsters of which they have been warned; it is about the psychology of fear rather than a horrific portrayal of it.

East Village - Hutchinson encyclopedia article about East Village   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Located between 14th and Houston streets east of the Bowery, it was formerly considered part of the Lower East Side; the designation ‘East Village’ came into general use in the 1950s and 1960s.
In the 19th century it was a predominantly German and Irish neighbourhood, and was sometimes referred to as ‘Little Germany’.
By the 1950s, its residents included artists spilling over from Greenwich Village, and it gained a reputation as a beatnik and hippie quarter, home to prominent anti-establishment figures such as the US poet Ginsberg.

The manorial element, in fact, is superimposed on the communal, and is not the foundation of it: the medieval village is a free village gradually feudalised.

If 20th-century Western art was jump-started by a urinal, a founding moment for the new Chinese art took place in a public toilet on the outskirts of Beijing in 1994.
There, Zhang Huan—a 29-year-old artist living beside a garbage dump in the city's eastern suburbs, a ramshackle neighborhood that he and his friends had dubbed "the East Village" in emulation of New York's bohemian mecca—stepped into a typically squalid latrine on a summer day and felt himself "devoured by flies."
