At age sixteen he and Soutine were studying at the Fine Arts School in Vilnia and in 1911 he moved to join the growing artistic community gathering in the Montparnasse Quarter of Paris, France.
This artistic community included his friend Soutine as well as fellow Belarus painter, Pinchus Kremegne who also had studied at the Fine Arts School in Vilnia.
In 1914, he married a young lady from Vilnia with whom he would have a daughter and a son.

In the former curve of River Vilnia between Pilies Hill and Sereiki¹kių Garden, where we have tennis courts today, there used to be the grand duke’s mill with the first Vilnius paper mill set up as early as the the beginning of 16th c.
In 1808 the garden was extended onto the other side of River Vilnia at the foot of Plikojo and Bekesh Hills, where formerly Jesuits had their works of wax candles.
River Vilnia flowing at the foot of the hill was eroding it until in 1838 five walls of the monument fell, and other walls went down in 1841.

The territory of the Duchy of Navaharodak, which had been colonized by both the Kryvicy and the Dryhvicy, extended along the Nioman river between Horadzien (currently know as Hrodna or Grodno) in the west and Navaharodak in the east (Vilnia in north earlier called Kryw-city).
He also included an open invitation to artisans and farmers to come and live in the GDL, promising support and reduced taxes to those who would come.
Along with his other political accomplishments, Gedimin established Vilnia as the capital of the GDL as early as 1323.
