		Vimont was for many years the leading merchant in the village of Millersburg; also a heavy shipper of produce to the South, and a contractor, in which business his sons superseded him.
		Vimont is engaged in agriculture and raising of thoroughbred Cotswold sheep and short horn cattle; his sheep are of the finest in the Blue Grass region, and in demand in a number of different States throughout the union.

		Joseph Vimont was born in Caen, France, on March 27, 1795.
		By the end of the 1840s, scientists were debunking many of phrenology's most notorious claims, but it remained a popular field of study amongst lay people until late in the 19th century.
		Other movements can be said to have found their beginnings in phrenology, however, such as Broca's studies of brain localization, the study of the human animal (anthropology), and the study of the "races," which eventually led to many eugenics and ethnic purity movements.

		Vimont cannot believe that they have such a plan, but considers them responsible for not stopping this practice.

		Father Barthélemy Vimont (1594-1667) was a Jesuit priest, personal friend, and admirer of Jean Nicolet.
		It is believed that Nicolet traveled to Doty Island at the outlet of Lake Winnebago for one of these feasts, but it is unknown from Vimont’s brief description whether Nicolet explored any further up the Fox River.
		Nicolet spent the winter with the Ho-Chunk and returned in 1635 to Three Rivers, Quebec, with the unfortunate news that the Puans had no knowledge of a passage to Asia.

		The earliest written reference to the body of water that was to be eventually called Green Bay was written by Father Barthélemy Vimont in Jesuit Relation of 1640, one of a series of annual reports from Jesuit missionaries in the Great Lakes region.
		In this volume he described Jean Nicolet's 1634 journey to a location that has since been interpreted as a site near the present day city of Green Bay.
		Vimont simply stated that Nicolet made "a journey to the nation called People of the Sea."
