Grind (2003 film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Grind is a 2003 film about four young aspiring amateur skaters: Eric (Mike Vogel), Matt (Vince Vieluf), Dustin (Adam Brody), and Sweet Lou (Joey Kern) are all trying to make it in the world of pro skateboarding by pulling insane stunts in front of pro skater Jimmy Wilson (Jason London).
The three of them recruit the laid-back ladies man, Sweet Lou, to be the fourth man on their skating team.
Along the way, Eric meets Bam Margera, a pro skater who agrees to look at the group's demo tape.

His friends are the somewhat-off and often-inappropriate Matt (Vince Vieluf), the college-bound Dustin (Adam Brody), and the modeled-on-Matt-McConaughey's character in Dazed and Confused Sweet Lou (Joey Kern).
There's one scene that stands out, simply because Bam Margera is playing himself in it: Eric approaches Bam to give him a tape, which Bam says he'll watch — but Bam starts picking on Jamie, and when Eric stands up for her, Bam throws it away.
Though this sort of scene is rote in films like this (the protagonist proving his hero status by showing he values people over his personal gain), the fact that Bam is playing himself puts an interesting spin on it.

Originally hailing from West Chester, PA, the roots of CKY stretch back to 1994, when friends Miller and Margera formed the group Foreign Objects -- issuing the EP The Undiscovered Numbers & Colors on the Distant Recordings label a year later.
By 1996, the group had changed its name to Camp Kill Yourself (Miller thought up the name, thinking it would make a perfect title for a horror movie), while demos were recorded and the other members fell into place.
The quartet caught a break when Margera's pro skateboarding brother, Bam, was featured doing wacky acts on the video Jump off a Building, which featured a song ("Genesis 12a") from CKY.

It’s like an American action director futilely trying to ape the fight-sequence coverage of some wildass Hong Kong auteur, and it doesn’t even come close to transposing the shriek and thrum of rock-hard Kryptonics and battered Indies on rampwood.
That said, Grind is a marginally valiant effort nonetheless, leavened by a scene-stealing performance from Vince Vieluf as slackerish skater-rat Matt, who frequently, and without warning, bursts into the sort of inopportune staccato laughter you’d sooner expect from a gutshot Woody Woodpecker than a burly skate-goof.
Frankly, if you want to catch the real deal these days all you have to do is turn on an episode of MTV’s Jackass, a show which perfectly captures the warped, sex-mad, pro-wastoid abandon of uncensored skater philosophy in all its ragged, screw-the-system glory.

The subject is skateboarding (haven't filmmakers and studios learned their lesson from the badly received flops "Rad" and "Airborne?"), and recent high school graduate Eric Rivers (Mike Vogel) lives for the sport.
If these three actors fit the middling requirements asked of them, then Vince Vieluf (2001's "Rat Race"), as the untamed Matt, surpasses them with his fresh and offbeat personality.
