	"The Colonization of the Phoenix Islands"
		The islands are eight in number and fall into three clearly-defined groups: the comparatively fertile islands of Sydney, Hull and Gardner to the South, the three minute satellite islets of Phoenix, Birnie and McKean, which match them in the centre, and the 'dry' islands of Canton and Enderbury in the north.
		The islands first became known to the outside world through the accidental discovery of their phosphate-guano deposits by the Master of one of the later whaling ships, a Captain M. Baker, who in 1839 landed on the island (later named after him) to bury a member of his crew.
		On coral islands certain of the reef fish tend to be poisonous for portions of the year, the types of fish and times during which they are poisonous changing from island to island.

		Most of the island is volcanic in nature, with several very fine sandy beaches, granite and limestone cliffs, and some basaltic regions.
		Apparently, at one time the Easter Islanders were able to read the curious pictographs scattered throughout the island, but that has been lost along with understanding of their own written form of Rongorongo.
		Other snippets describing visits to the island have surfaced, but most are limited to "landed, found nothing of interest, left again rather quickly." With the information from the two earliest sources, the E1 team managed to quickly locate and begin investigation of six sites.

		Researchers have linked radiation releases from the Three Mile Island nuclear plant to higher cancer rates in nearby communities in a study that could reopen debate over the nation's worst commercial nuclear accident.
		The study comes a year after a federal judge dismissed damage claims by more than 2,000 neighbors of the Three Mile Island plant, citing a "paucity of proof" to support assertions that radiation from the accident affected their health.
