According to UNESCO Committee research, Evritania is placed fifth in the world and the First in Europe as far as environmental purity is concerned.

Karpenisi is the capital of the prefecture, built on the foot of the mountain named Timphristos.

Since then, the school building has been declared a landmark monument and an exhibition of the photographs of the National Resistance photographer Spyros Meletzis is housed there.
On March 10, 1944, in the school building of the village of Palia Viniani the "Government of the Mountain", the first government of Free Greece was convened.
Since that time it has been declared a museum monument where a large amount of photographic material as well as texts from the period referring to the struggles and the capitol of Free Greece, Viniani are housed.

There had been great Evritanian contribution during the Second World War, as well, when Hitler's Nazis and Mussolini's fascists were occupying the whole country.
The first "mountain Government" was established In the village of Viniani during the Spring of 1944 and it proclaimed elections for a National Committee.
This Committee was convoked at Korischades, in the school building, and made substantial decisions about the Resistance war.The school building is now a museum, a memorial of what Greeks can achieve if they are united.At these elections it was the first time in Modern Greek History that women had the right to vote.

The route from Viniani used to be more popular some decades ago, but when the road to Kaloskopi was made, this route provided a shorter way up.
The disadvandage is that the refuge is at the other side of the mountain so one has to go up to 2150m and then down to 1900m to get to it.
