 The Vikings in Newfoundland
Vinland was inhabited by a series of explorers, including the brothers and sister of Leif, for the next seven or eight years.
The uncovered ruins of the Vinland community at L'ans aux Meadows can be visited near St Anthony (pronounced "Sane Ant knee" by the locals) at the tip of the Western Peninsula on Newfoundland.
One interesting note to this story is that the Vikings during their stay in Vinland were the first Europeans (don't forget their roots to Norway) to meet the native peoples of North America.

Vinland was settled in 1854 with the passing of the Kansas/Nebraska Act, an act which gave the residents the chance to vote whether they wanted to enter the Union as a slave state or a free state.

Vinland placed its emphasis on community events with the churches, the Grange, the Grange Fairs, and education with the schools and the Coal Creek Library.

The father came to Kansas in 1856, and was an active free state man, having been captured at Hickory Point and held as a prisoner at Lecompton for two months.
In 1901 she entered the Kansas State University and took a graduate course in history, and received the degree of master of arts, June 1903.

 Silas Soule - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Silas Stillman Soule (July 26, 1838 – April 23, 1865) was a Massachusetts abolitionist, Kansas Territory Jayhawker, and a soldier in the Colorado infantry and cavalry during the American Civil War.
He was raised in Maine and Massachusetts and, in 1854, his family became part of the newly formed Emigrant Aid Society, an organization whose goal was to help settle the Kansas Territory and bring it into the Union as a free state.
The fight was whether Kansas would be admitted to the Union as a slave or as a free state.

Vinland United Methodist Church members appreciate those who dedicated many hours and talent for scheduling babies and families, setting up and tearing down the manger scene, preparing costumes and providing snacks for the participants, shepherding the animals, manning the reception table, attending the parking area, and numerous other tasks.

The building was nominated to the national register for its association with the life of William E. Barnes, a co-founder of Vinland, Kansas and the originator of the first vineyard in Kansas and for its architectural significance as an example of a gabled-roofed limestone agricultural processing building.
The house is being nominated for its historical significance for its association with the Kansas Territory, its association with early Kansan Samuel Houston, and architectural significance as an example of vernacular stone architecture.

She believed strongly in the possibility of achieving peace in the Middle East despite all obstacles and difficulties, and devoted a significant amount of her academic research to issues that helped Americans gain a better understanding of the Middle East in general, and the Israel-Palestine conflict in particular.
In 1988 Misty accepted a position at the University of Kansas (KU), where, at the time of her death, she was professor of political science and co-director of its Center for International Political Analysis.
Misty Gerner is survived by her husband and partner, Philip A. Schrodt, professor of political science at the University of Kansas; and her parents, Henry and Dorothy Love Gerner, of Indianapolis, and brother, Mark Gerner, of Evansville, Indiana.

And mainly in the paper, there was talk of the new proposed amendment to the Kansas constitution banning gay marriage which has prompted a fabulous response to the state slogan KANSAS: AS BIG AS YOU THINK in the new bumper stickers, selling like wildfire, that read KANSAS: AS BIGOTED AS YOU THINK.
Help came in the form of three policemen, each in their own car, one fire chief in a white pickup truck, and four firemen on a fire truck, complete with flashing lights and yellow rubber suits.
