 Rough Edge: Vinnie Moore CD Reviews
At first Moore played an integral part of the neo-classical fusion explosion in the late '80s; Moore branched out toward simpler hard rock leanings in the mid-Nineties before merging the fusion and rock worlds with 1999's "The Maze." What is most mind-boggling is that Moore continues to be an under-appreciated guitarist and musician.
Vinnie Moore's guitar work is complemented by a trio of magnificent musicians: Dave LaRue (The Dregs) provides ample rhythmic variety on bass, Shane Gaalaas (Yngwie J. Malmsteen and the Michael Schenker Group) keeps the beat interesting with powerful and solid drumming, and the multi-talented Tony MacAlpine fills out the harmonic space with keyboards.
Vinnie Moore burst onto the music scene in the late '80s as one of the purveyors of neo-classical fusion.

 Daily Vault - January 10, 2002
Vinnie Moore is a guitarist who could be placed in this category.
Moore captures this same essence and demonstrates to even a die-hard metal freak that an acoustic guitar can be a cool instrument, and that you can still be flashy on an acoustic without all the effects and distortion.
If Moore hasn't done an all-acoustic album yet (and I admit my knowledge of his discography is minimal), that should be the next item on his agenda, 'cause he proves on these tracks he's damned good at it.

Malmsteen turned heads from all musical styles because of his technical proficiency back in the early '80s, but those same heads quickly turned away to find out that there was little more being offered than really fast scales.
Without being too hard on Moore, he is one of the more interesting of the shredders and has one of the cleaner sounds.

 Ink 19 :: Vinnie Moore
If you have not heard of Vinnie Moore, he is an outstanding guitar player and musician in the ranks of Joe Satriani, Steve Morse, and Yngwie Malmsteen (he is grossly underrated, though).
Moore's style of playing is quite distinctive in this album, however: no cunning stunts or experimentations here, but mostly impressive scale runs, arpeggios, and beautiful playing of carefully chosen notes.
On this album, Vinnie Moore is assisted by some talented musicians such as Dave LaRue (The Dregs) on bass, Steve Smith (Journey) on drums, and David Rosenthal (Rainbow) on keyboards.

The Swedish virtuoso had many imitators, and Vinnie Moore was chief among them.
Moore then glides through a few competent, slightly passive rock numbers before Time Odyssey's most impressive cut, "Race With Destiny." Unfortunately, this neo-classical number is an utter Malmsteen rip-off.
Of the imitators, Moore ranks high, due to his accurate playing and warm tone, but offerings like Time Odyssey are missing the emotional substance and/or technical innovation they need to be considered important shred documents.

I think of Moore as less the big name as those others of the past, surely no less defined a talent, but maybe a little more intricate and acutely detailed -- much like we're getting here.
