HOW TO DETECT AND FORECAST VIRGA   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-23)
Virga is hydrometeors that evaporate or sublimate before reaching the earth's surface.
Virga is more likely when precipitation is falling from a relatively high cloud base and the lower tropospheric RH ambient environment is fairly dry.
Virga is common on radar in winter when light snow or rain is detected aloft but the lower troposphere is initially dry.

Virga - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Virga is a meteorologic term for precipitation that falls from a cloud but evaporates before reaching the ground.
Virga also has a role in seeding storm cells, where light particles from one cloud are blown into neighbouring supersaturated air and act as nucleation particles for the next thunderhead cloud to begin forming.
Virga is a Latin word for a branch or twig, and hence for objects made from it, as a broom, a staff or a rod (hence the English word virge).

Virga's use of plaintiffs' names in the HTML code for her web site even if treated as a trademark use, as alleged by plaintiffs is just the sort of consumer commentary that courts fastidiously protect.

The Virga Aurea - Seventy-two magical and other related alphabets
The Virga Aurea, or to give the full title, "The Heavenly Golden Rod of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Seventy-two Praises" consists of a list of seventy two alphabets (actually seventy, plus Latin and Hebrew which are the two languages of the text of the plate).
The Virga Aurea was published as a large engraving (approx 20" by 32") at Rome in 1616, though it seems from internal evidence that Hepburn originally produced an illuminated manuscript bearing the essentials of the work done in various colours and possibly using gold.
If we further take into account Hepburn's interest in the Kabbalah, and his translation and publication of a Solomonic occult text, I think we are justified in assuming that Hepburn may have, in some small way, contributed to the public revelation at that time of the esoteric wisdom of the past.

 Splendid Magazine reviews Virga/Lunt: Baxendall
Virga's work starts us off, as "Shining" fades in on a curiously tuned, pitch-bent, layered guitar, gradually developing into a stew of pulsing electronics, warbling feedback tones and snippets of speech.
It's far more of a rock song than any of Virga's solo pieces, and hints at the textures that Lunt will soon be layering into his work.
The album's closer is an eleven-minute reimagining of Virga's "Shining"; it smooths out all of the original track's rough edges, and while it's not quite as effective, it's still pretty nice to hear the track's concept redone as if by an angelic chorus.

Perspective: Welcome to the world of free-speech exterminators
Virga, a middle-aged secretary from California, was a victim of a slash-and-burn legal assault mounted by Terminix simply because she used the Internet to air a complaint.
In the Terminix case, the company initially sued Virga for any use of its name on her Web site, but later, after realizing how absurd that was, said its objection was only to its corporate name in the site's "meta tags." Experts describe meta tags as a kind of subject card catalog for the Internet.
Had Virga been a competing pest control company, say, Orkin, and was using Terminix in her meta tags solely to trick potential customers into taking a look at a rival Web site, then Terminix might have a case.

What Is Virga?   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-23)
Virga, which is spelled v-i-r-g-a, is pretty common and you’ve probably seen it but didn’t know it had a special name.
Mostly in the summer, virga can be seen falling away in streaks from the bottom of one of those puffy gray and white cumulus clouds on a crisp afternoon.
So virga is technically virgin precipitation and its easy to spot its wispy form seemingly hanging in the air beneath its parent cloud.

Virga occurs when you have a layer of drier air near the surface.
As the rain falls out of the cloud, it reaches this dry air layer, and just evaporates back into water vapor before it can reach the ground -- although if you're under an area of virga, you'll still likely notice a drop or two that survived the fall.
Virga is quite common in desert areas, where the humidities are generally so low, that most of the rain will just evaporate right out.
