Virgin Nigeria plans to add Newark as its first American destination, followed by Washington DC, (to cater for political and NGO traffic), and Houston (catering for oil industry-related traffic).

Virgin Atlantic Airways (IATA: VS, ICAO: VIR, and Callsign: Virgin), usually referred to as Virgin Atlantic, is one of the airlines of Richard Branson's Virgin Group, operating long-haul routes between London and North America, the Caribbean, Africa, Asia and Australia.
In January 1991 the UK Civil Aviation Authority opened the door for Virgin to operate from Heathrow and services were started from July 1991, one of the major causes of the BA "dirty tricks" campaign against Virgin.
On August 15, 2005, Virgin Atlantic, which flies the Kangaroo route between Australia and the UK via Hong Kong, denied it is in talks with part owner Singapore Airlines about extending its code sharing arrangements from Singapore to Sydney.

A battle over air space is playing itself out in the Federal High Court in Lagos where Virgin Nigeria Airways and four others have filed an objection challenging the jurisdiction of the court to entertain a suit brought against them by Airline Operators of Nigeria.
THISDAY reports the Airline Operators are seeking a declaration that by virtue of the existing treaties and agreements between Nigeria and other countries, particularly the UK and Nigeria, the reservation of the routes for Virgin Nigeria is illegal, unjust, unfair and inequitable.
The plaintiff is also asking the court to declare that the reservation of several air routes for several years for Virgin Nigeria by the Aviation Minister is unlawful.
