I was introduced to the Creeper 4 years ago by a good friend who must have had some hidden adgenda to turn my wife and myself in to "Creeper Junkies".
There are also hikers (the Appalachian Trail shares the Creeper in two areas) and there are horseback riders (this reminds me, don't run over the "green rocks"; that stuff is hard to get off the bike and you).
The Va Creeper is not a mtb trail per se.

One word caught my attention when the man talked about what fun he had on the Virginia Creeper bike trail.
It was extended in 1905 to Elkland (now Todd), N.C., by the Hassinger Lumber Co., one of the largest lumber producers in the eastern U.S. The railroad soon ran four freight trains and two passenger trains each day from Abingdon to Elkland, N.C., but it was a continuing battle against flooding rains and rock slides.
Virginia Creeper was a name given the trains that puffed their way up grades that averaged about 2.5 percent and reached almost 5 percent near White Top Station.
