Virology - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Virology, often considered a part of microbiology, is the study of biological viruses: their structure and classification, their ways to infect and exploit cells to reproduce and cause disease, and their potential uses in research and therapy.
A major branch of virology is virus classification.
Since viruses that infect eukaryotes need to transport their genetic material into the host cell's nucleus, they are attractive tools for introducing new genes into the host (known as transformation or transfection), and this approach of using viruses as gene vectors is being pursued in the gene therapy of genetic diseases.

Welcome to PASCV, the Pan American Society for Clinical Virology
Joint Meeting of the European Society for Clinical Virology and the Clinical Virology Group of the Society for General Microbiology
Birmingham, UK The Pan American Group for Rapid Viral Diagnosis (PAGRVD) was founded in 1977 to promote rapid viral diagnosis and help raise the standards of diagnostic virology in the Americas, as the European Group for Rapid Viral Diagnosis had done in Europe.
In 1995, the name was changed to the Pan American Society for Clinical Virology (PASCV) to reflect the expanding role of the Society in all areas of clinical virology: viral pathogenesis, manifestations of disease, laboratory diagnosis, prevention, and therapy.
