  The Iron Maiden Commentary
Virtual XI is Iron Maiden's second studio album with Blaze Bayley as vocalist.
Although there will always be people who are unable to accept this evolution, Virtual XI demonstrates that the band has indeed overcome their painful transitional period and are now continuing to do what they do best – making great music.
Albums should not be subject to such commercialisation and advertising gimmicks, which in my opinion only cheapen the mood and feeling of the album.

Virtual XI - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Virtual XI is the British heavy metal band Iron Maiden's 11th studio album, released March 23, 1998.
This is possibly because this album was the first one where Steve Harris performed several of the keyboard-parts recorded on the album himself (in the previous three albums it had been entirely done by Michael Kenny, and before then keyboard use had been minnimal).
This is the third album by Maiden that was not named after a song on the album (similarly to Piece of Mind and the previous album).

This album has been slated by the majority of fans and critics alike, but in truth its pretty stirring stuff, faster than latter maiden albums despite having a more traditional rock sound in parts than the standard maiden style.
Maidens 2nd album with Blaze and althought not as good as The X factor, which in,my opinion is Maidens best along with 7th son and somewhere in time, it is stil a strong album.
Virtual XI is the second album from Iron Maiden with Blaze Bayley on vocals, and while it is an improvement on the previous album (The X-Factor) it is below the standard of albums like 'Piece of Mind' and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son' which cemented Maiden's reputation.

In 1998, little interest in the Virtual XI album prompted Bayley's termination; Dickinson and Smith returned to the band for a tour in 1999.

The X Factor is a heavy metal album released October 2, 1995 by Iron Maiden.

The tour for the album, like the tour for their next album, Virtual XI, was cut short after Blaze suffered a violent allergic reaction to certain elements used on the stages where the band performed.

The Daily Vault Album Reviews : Virtual XI
Their latest album, Virtual XI, all but kills the progress the band had made just one album ago, and makes me pine all the more for the classic days of Maiden.
It's also interesting to note that of the three songs I thought were the highlights of the album, two of them were co-written by Bayley (and one of them, "Como Estais Amigos," had no trace of Steve Harris anywhere in it).
I really wanted to like Virtual XI, but this is one of the weakest Maiden efforts since the atrocious Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son (uh, oh, I can feel the flame mail comin' in with that comment).

"Virtual XI" begins with "Futureal," a short, fast tune that brings to mind previous Maiden classics with it's galloping thump and intricate guitar work.
Disregarding "Futureal," the average song on "Virtual XI" is six-minutes long, repetitive and mildly dull.
However (and this is the biggest problem with Virtual XI), the chorus is unbelievably bad.

The first album to be produced by the band, with the new front man, was 'The X Factor'.
The album and the first Single release Man On The Edge both made the top ten, and as the case has being for virtually the last nineteen years, Maiden remained the best selling heavy metal band in the U.K. The X Factor was also album of the year in both Germany and France.
Furthermore, the ‘silenced’ critics reached the conclusion that despite not being ‘classic’ Maiden, and not the most motivating of albums, The X Factor was of a highly consistent standard — and alongside Virtual XI, easily the most consistent since 1988’s Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son.

The band continued with Virtual XI in 1998, which is now considered one of the worst albums in Maiden's career.
Virtual XI maintains the sound of Maiden (which X Factor didn't), but X Factor seemed tailor made to fit Blaze's singing style.

Its a splendid return to form by the kings of metal and it is worthy of your attention as a metalhead.

Somewhere in Time is the sixth studio album by British heavy metal band Iron Maiden, released on 29 September 1986.
Bruce Dickinson's song material was refused in favour of the songs of guitarist Adrian Smith, who wrote the bulk of the songs identified with the album (including the singles "Wasted Years" and "Stranger in a Strange Land ").
The album art, particularly that for the song 'Stranger in a Strange Land' was a major inspiration for the music video "The Angel and the Gambler" from the Virtual XI album in 1998.
