Viru Viru International Airport (IATA: VVI) is an aviation facility located in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia.
Viru Viru filled a hole in the Bolivian aviation industry: With Santa Cruz being the second largest city in the South American country, Viru Viru became an important link between La Paz and the rest of the country.
The airport is a hub for Lloyd Aereo Boliviano, and most of the flights that arrive here are either domestic flights, or flights from neighboring South American countries.

The women were nabbed three days apart in June at the Viru-Viru International Airport in Santa Cruz, Bolivia while allegedly carrying a total of 12.4 kilograms of the prohibited drug.
The first of the two women, a 47-year-old Filipina, was caught June 25 at the Bolivia airport allegedly with 2.6 kilos of cocaine hidden in two wooden ashtrays in her luggage, said a report to the DFA of Philippine Ambassador to Argentina George Reyes.
Four days later, Reyes said another Filipina, was arrested in the same airport purportedly in possession of 9.8 kilos of cocaine hidden in her luggage.

Found in her possession was a package containing 2.6 kilograms of cocaine hidden in two wooden ashtrays in her luggage.
Ambassador Reyes further reported that four days later (29 June 2005), another 27-year old Filipina was also arrested at the Viru-Viru International Airport this time carrying 9.8 kilograms of cocaine concealed in the base of her luggage.
