Clancarty actually died on 27th April that year, aged 64, and was succeeded by his eldest surviving son, Richard le Poer Trench, 2nd Earl of Clancarty, the diplomatist.
Clancarty is named as one of the four English plenipotentiaries to the Congress of Vienna on August 11th - Talleyrand in a letter to Louis XVIII of 28th Dec speaks of his zeal, firmness and uprightness.
Clancarty officially appointed ambassador to the new kingdom of the Netherlands.

The title of Earl of Clancarty has been created twice in the Peerage of Ireland, first in 1658, that title being attainted in 1690, and then in 1803.
As Viscount Clancarty, the Earls sat in the House of Lords until 1999, when the House of Lords Act was passed.
In an obituary for Donough MacCarty, mention is made of the reversal of the attainder at some point before his death, and of the title being inherited by his son Donough.

The Right Honourable Frederick John Robinson, 1st Earl of Ripon (November 1, 1782 - January 28, 1859), Frederick John Robinson until 1827, The Viscount Goderich 1827-1833, and The Earl of Ripon 1833 onwards, was a British statesman and Prime Minister (when he was known as Lord Goderich).
After studying at Harrow and St John's College, Cambridge, Robinson entered Parliament in 1806, and served in various minor positions in the government of Lord Liverpool, including joint-Paymaster of the Forces, from which position he sponsored the Corn Laws of 1815, before entering the Cabinet in 1818 as President of the Board of Trade.
In 1827 he was raised to the peerage as Viscount Goderich, of Nocton in the County of Lincoln, and served as Secretary of State for War and the Colonies and Leader of the House of Lords in George Canning's short-lived government.

General Needham, the third son of John, 10th Viscount Kilmorey, joined the army in 1762, fought in the American War of Independence, where he was taken prisoner, and was promoted to lt-colonel in 1783.

After the death of the Viscount of Oxfuird on 3rd January 2003, the vacant seat was filled at a byelection held on 25th and 25th March 2003.
As the Viscount of Oxfuird had been one of the 15 peers elected by the whole House as office-holders, the electorate was the whole House of Lords.
This included the hereditary peers elected under the House of Lords Act 1999, but not including peers on leave of absence or those who had not taken the oath.

Garbally Park, in the immediate vicinity, is the seat of the Earl of Clancarty, the proprietor of the town: the mansion is situated in a well wooded demesne, and was rebuilt in 1819; it contains a good collection of paintings, and the public are allowed free access both to the house and grounds.
Three schools for boys and girls, one for girls only, and an infants school, chiefly supported by the Earl of Clancarty, and from other sources, at an expense of about £150 per annum ; and there is a national school for both sexes, under the patronage of the R. clergyman.
The townland of Dunlo, on which the Galway portion of the town is built, gives the inferior title of Viscount to the Earl of Clancarty.
