  All Saints Antrim Historical Timeline
During the 15th century a former Viscount Massereene is thought to have brought the continental window, depicting the martyrdom of St John the Baptist, to be used as part of the church, from continental Europe.
The first Massereene monument was built in memory of Chichester Skeffington at the request of Viscountess Harriet and her daughter.
Viscount Massereene was able to return to Antrim and take a House of Peers seat in the new Williamite parliament in Dublin.

Mary's is a large country church and with the number and size of its monuments, gives the feeling of opulence.
Hardly surprising when across the opposite side of the Village square, stands Chilham Castle, owned at different times by the Digges family, the Hardy family and more recently by Viscount Massereene and Ferrard.
Most of the east end of the Church was torn down in the 19th Century and reconstructed by Charles Hardy in 1863/4.

Castle, mostly a Jacobean Mansion was built around an original Norman Keep in 1616 for Sir Dudley Digges, Master of the Rolls for James I. The house was reputedly designed by Inigo Jones and again, the grounds were supposed to have been laid out by Capability Brown in 1777.
It was, until last year, 1996, the home of the 13th Viscount Massereene and Ferrard, a member of the Skeffington family.
(Please note: I have just learned that the Viscount Massereene, a charming man from my experience, passed away in 1992.

The inner park, around the mansion, was refashioned by Capability Brown in 1777.
The owner now is the 13th Viscount Massereene and Ferrard, a member of the Skeffington family that traces it's origins clear back to the Norman Conquest.
The grounds and the old keep are open to the public at specified times and are the scene, on occasion, of medieval-style jousting and falconry displays, and other such tourist attractions.
