John Lawrence Baird, 1st Baron Stonehaven (27 April 1874 - 20 August 1941), eighth Governor-General of Australia, was born in London, the son of a wealthy baronet.
Bruce opted for Stonehaven partly because of his political experience and partly because he was a more modest figure than the aristocratic alternatives.
For most of Stonehaven's term Bruce seem firmly entrenched in office, but in September 1929 he was unexpectedly defeated on the floor of the House of Representatives, and asked Stonehaven for a dissolution.

Stonehaven's main streets have many interesting and charming shops to explore, and the hotels and restaurants all offer varied menus and delightful surroundings in which to sample some of the local delights.
The original settlement at Stonehaven was no more than a small fishing village, but in 1600 Stonehaven  was  made  the County Town of Kincardineshire when the seat of the Sheriffdom of Kincardine was transferred from the old Kincardine township at Kincardine Castle, near Fetter-cairn.
When Stonehaven became the administrative centre of the county, it was essential to have a municipal building and there was only one suitable building in the town - the storehouse belonging to the Earl Marischal on the north side of the harbour.

Scottish Viscounts are unique from the other Peerages in using "of" in their title, as in Viscount of Oxfuird.
Though this is the theoretical form, most Viscounts drop the "of".
The Viscount of Arbuthnott and, to a lesser extent, the Viscount of Oxfuird, still actively use "of".
