	Welcome to the world of Romania's Railways - scenic journeys and steam in the forest!
		Viseu de Sus, close to the Ukraine border, in the Maramures is the only remaining, working narrow gauge forestry railway of many that were constructed to transport timber from the vast, remote forests of the Carpathians and their foothills.
		Viseu de Sus may be easily be reached from the CFR mainline railway station at Viseu de Jos.
		Viseu can be included as part of tailor-made guided or semi-independent holidays and we can organise accommodation in Viseu de Sus, including at the comfortable, though rather small, Hotel Brad located on the main street of the town, opposite the road leading down to the woodyards and railway.

		Roving Romania last travelled the CFF Viseu and Comandau lines in late 1998 and early 1999, and found both to be in almost daily use despite their generally run-down state.
		Viseu is also the proud owner of a real carriage with wooden seats and a pot-bellied stove for cold weather!

		In Viseu de Jos, the girls take a dip in the river at midnight hoping they will be pure, healthy and especially hoping to dream their predestined husband.

		On 10th March 2001, I was told by Frank Engel "Due to severe flooding damage train services on the Viseu de Sus CFF line have been suspended for the time being." Now (19th August 2001) he tells me that the forestry line is repaired up to Faina.

		Viseuforest had been the successor company of the old state owned CFF Viseu de Sus and ran the CFF Viseu rolling stock and the sawmill.
		The line to Coman is served daily and the section between Viseu and Noviciorul has been completely relaid.
		The Ripi ranch is at present being rebuilt, Novat-Ihoasa has been completed whilst in May the section to Betigi was under repair.
