LRB Jonathan Lethem : My Marvel Years
In Marvel's greatest comics, Lee and Kirby were full collaborators who, like Lennon and McCartney, really were more than the sum of their parts, and who derived their greatness from the push and pull of incompatible visions.
In his DC work and the return to Marvel, where he unveiled two new venues, The Eternals and 2001, Kirby gradually turned into an autistic primitivist genius, disdained as incompetent by much of his audience, but revered by a cult of aficionados in the manner of an 'outsider artist'.
Karl identified, as I've said, with Marvel's existential loners: the Vision, Warlock, Ghost Rider.

The Tides of History: Alan Moore's Historiographic Vision
I suggest, finally, that it is in the pleasure, in the fun of comics that Moore sees its most liberating, utopian possibilities.
Comic books are mass-produced, a depthless and popular form, inherently disposable culture, and typically reified at the level of content due to the prominence of stereotypes and other such fragments of compartmentalized thought.
Ozymandias makes himself into a shaman-priest and performs an act of social magic when he murders three million people and successfully shapes this sacrifice into an enormous lie: he maps human reality, filling it with a meaning and significance that he dictates and exploits.

 Miss Patriot
In Marvel Mystery Comics #50, however, she is kidnaped by the wicked Dr. Groitzig and the villainous Signore Scharrolla and used as a test subject for a super-soldier serum.
(The text of the story refers to her as Miss Patriot, although she never calls herself that.) By the next issue of Marvel Mystery Comics her powers had disappeared and Mary's identity as Miss Patriot was never followed up on or mentioned again.
First Appearance: Marvel Mystery Comics #50 (December 1943).

In fact, what he would turn out to bring to Marvel was a paradoxical combination: clunkily old-fashioned virtues that had been outmoded, if not surpassed, by subsequent Marvel artists, together with a baroque futuristic sensibility that would leave most readers chilled, largely alienated from what he was trying to do.

 King Arthur Pendragon (Camelot, Otherworld)
Also bear in mind that Arthur's reign in the Marvel Universe was from the latter part of the 5th century and into the early part of the 6th century.
This may be true in the Marvel Universe, but in Arthurian legend, Arthur did have many sons and Mordred himself did have two sons, Melehan and one unnamed, most likely out of wedlock.
(Marvel Super-Heroes (UK)#377/3) - Arthur and Merlyn discussed the mission Captain Britain and Jackdaw had been sent on, noting that the destiny the pair had to fulfill might even be more important than their own.

 Miss America
Golden Age Appearances: Marvel Mystery Comics #49-85, Miss America #1-2, All-Winners #19 and 21, All-Select #11, Blonde Phantom #12-14, Sun Girl #1.
Originally, in the Golden Age, Miss America was a powerhouse; she could fly, has X-ray vision, had the "strength of a thousand men," and the "wisdom of the ages." When she was revived as a member of the Liberty Legion and her story retold, she was given only flight.
When the Squad ended, she continued on in various comics, appearing as late as 1948, but like the rest of the Timely heroes she disappeared before the Fifties came around.

Marvel Comics - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Marvel Comics was founded in the 1930s under a constantly changing set of names, the most cited being Timely Comics.
Marvel was able to capitalize on its successful superhero comics of the previous decade by acquiring a new newsstand distributor and greatly expanding its comics line.
As was the norm with the industry, most comics at the time were 64 page anthologies with various characters, some of these still remembered by hardcore fans, including the Whizzer, Miss America, The Destroyer and the original Vision.

 Don Markstein's Toonopedia: The Vision
But apparently, he made an impression on a later Marvel Comics writer, Roy Thomas, who in 1968 created a new Vision character, very similar in appearance except for the coloring, as a member of The Avengers.
It's possible The Vision was a knock-off of DC Comics' character, The Spectre.
Whether or not there's a connection, he didn't match the so-called Ghostly Guardian's staying power — Marvel Mystery was the only place his series appeared, and he was gone from there after a couple of years.

"Marvel Masterworks: The Avengers, Volume 2" brings together issues #11-20, which means we begin with the Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Giant Man and Wasp lineup and end with Captain America, Hawkeye, the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver.
In other words, instead of a group made up of characters sharing space in second tier Marvel comics books (e.g., "Tales of Suspense") the Avengers end up being comprised of various supporting characters.
But for me "The Avengers" never really hit stride until the Vision joined their ranks and gave them a character they could truly call their own.

It's possible The Vision was a knock-off of DC Comics' character, The Spectre.

 The Comics Journal: Essays
The new Marvel's model for the comics industry seems to be less about Team Comics than about a really vicious game of licensed-property dodgeball.
Team Comics switches between two basic modes of entreaty: duty, by suggesting someone who really loves comics would do his best by them; and self-esteem, where one is flattered into believing he has the power to create a world in which his choice of entertainment reflects favorably upon him.
Team Comics members in good standing might buy an extra copy of a comic they believe in, shop only at their local comic-book store rather than seek out the best bargain, give comics for presents, loan them to friends and provide a good personal example through attention to personal hygiene and use of pro-comics rhetoric.

Marvel Comics has given THE PULSE an exclusive first look at three of the back covers for the Ultimate Vision six part story running through the November and December Ultimates titles.
This story will be playing a major role in the Ultimate Universe in 2006 and it serves as a prequel to the Ultimate Vision mini-series for next year.
I'm making some assumptions here, but depending on how this Vision relates to the vision (mark2) that has appeared in the recent issue of the ultimates, it might be an interesting contemporary look on gender identification and sexuality in relation to AI.
