THE METAL OBSERVER - Review - STRATOVARIUS - Visions
One of the greatest works of the guys around guitar player Timo Tolkki is surely their "Visions" album from 1997.
Every new album has its hits and classics and except from their really weak debut album "Fright Night", STRATOVARIUS had never released any bad album.
New respectively stronger appearing on "Visions" is the classical vein of the band.

 Stratovarius Interview
Today Stratovarius is a heavy metal band approaching the stadium size, whose total record sales threaten the respectable limit of half a million copies with the new album Visions.
Stratovarius' new album was made carefully for a long time.
Ths stories of Stratovarius are born far away from the noise of the big world, in the woods of Klaukkala.

The album title is also reflective on the state of Stratovarius.
It has pieces of their past albums: the dolphins from INFINITY, the Stonehenge looking structure from EPISODE, the planetary bodies from TWILIGHT TIME, the pyramids of FOURTH DIMENSION, the rainbow from VISIONS, etc. There are fifteen tracks on here.
Perhaps I’m not the best person to review this CD because I love the band so much…so much in fact that even their non-metal songs like “Mother Gaia” work for me. So take in mind that this review is from the perspective of a major FAN of Stratovarius, from someone who loves all their CD’s.

Metal Rules!!:  Interview with Timo Kotipelto of Stratovarius
But, we always work very hard and we try to release an album after we’ve got some new songs and then we were touring for maybe 4 months for the Infinite album, so we’ve been working for basically 7 years on the road and in the studio and that’s kind’ve hard work.
I guess the song Infinity, on your DVD (Infinite Visions), you have the pictures of the beauty of the world with images of nature then you have the pictures of the shipping yards and killing fields and all the negative things that we see.
Musically, I got ready something like 13-15 but all the lyrics I have to write and that’s going to be hard work because the album will be a concept album so all the songs will be related somehow together and also to the theme of the album.

Some of his credits include Mountain, Yngwie Malmsteen's band, Dio's band, solo prog-metal/jazz-fusion projects, and as well as playing with Mastermind now, he also joined Euro prog-metallers Stratovarius for the recording of Visions, subsequent European/South American tour, and the resulting live album, Visions of Europe (live).
Jens is from the "lickety-split" school of lightning-fast playing/soloing.
then I realized that Jens Johansson is not merely neo-classical keyboard player, but also versatile and unique musician.

Kotipelto has recruited more than capable musicians to back him up, and as such, has produced a better album than anything Stratovarius has ever released (and yes, for all you power fans, that does include Visions).
However, you can take this to heart: if Tolkki incorporates Kotipelto into Stratovarius song writing, the next album from that unit might actually impress a few people rather than inducing absolute laughter.
Timo Kotipelto, however, is redeemed in my books, mainly because he differs from his leader and bandmate's approach.

Kotipelto has joined forces with Symphony X guitarist Michael Romeo, to quite simply, pu out an album that is better than anything Stratovarius has done since "Visions".
Kotipelto used bassist Jari Kainulainen of Stratovarius and Thunderstone drummer Mirka Rantanen to provide a thick backbone to the music.
While Kotipelto's voice is unmistakable, the music and song structures show a different side to the man with the golden voice.
