Habitat was dying off in the Vistula Bay, which on pre-war maps went by the name "Fresh Bay." The Hel Peninsula was also environmentally threatened towards the end of the 1980s.
In the Vistula Bay, IM is cooperating with the Maritime Fishing Institute (MIR) in measuring fish stocks.
The institute is drafting a plan to recultivate the Vistula Peninsula, to restore its "freshness." Poland agreed to resolve this issue under the terms of the Helsinki Convention, and IM is cooperating with the administrative body of the convention, the Helsinki Commission.
