Visual area V2 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Visual area V2 is the second major area in the occipital lobe of the cerebral cortex.
Anatomically, V2 is split into four quadrants, a dorsal and ventral representation in the left and the right hemispheres.
Recent research has shown that V2 cells are tuned to the orientation of illusory contours, shows a small amount of attentional modulation (more than V1, less than V4), are tuned for moderately complex patterns, and may be driven by multiple orientations at different subregions within a single receptive field.

Visual area V4 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Visual area V4 is an one of the visual areas in the extrastriate visual cortex of the macaque monkey.
V4 is the third cortical area in the ventral stream, receiving strong feedforward input from visual area V2, and sending strong connections to the posterior inferotemporal cortex (PIT).
Visual area V4 is not tuned for complex objects such as faces, as areas in the inferotemporal cortex are.

The mean area between the 2-deg and 12-deg eccentricities for the primary visual areas was: V1: 1470 mm2; V2: 1115 mm2; and V3: 819 mm2.
Visual areas V1, V2 and V3 are difficult to distinguish using fMRI in a region that represents the central visual field (1-2 deg).
Visual area locations were identified by fitting a quantitative model of the expected pattern of activation (the atlas) to the measured data.

Retinotopy and color sensitivity in human visual cortical area V8 - Nature Neuroscience   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-04)
As shown earlier in V1 and V2 (ref. 27), we found that both color- and luminance-varying stimuli produced robust activation in many areas of visual cortex, when compared with a uniform gray field (data not shown).
In both species, visual cortex is shown in flattened format, with visual area boundaries and polar angle continua as in Fig.
Area V8 is retinotopically distinct from the previously described area V4v, based on at least four different criteria.

The visual cortex is the part of the cerebral cortex of the brain that is responsible for processing visual stimuli.
Anatomically, the visual cortex occupies the entire occipital lobe, the inferior temporal lobe (IT), posterior parts of the parietal lobe, and a few small regions in the frontal lobe.
The first cortical visual area, the one that receives information directly from the lateral geniculate nucleus, is the Primary Visual Cortex, or V1.

Segregation of efferent connections and receptive field properties in visual area V2 of the macaque
V2 is a visual area of the macaque monkey which is at the second level in a recently proposed hierarchy of cortical visual areas
Using an anatomical double-label paradigm, we have now demonstrated that V2 cells projecting to two of its major target areas, MT and V4 (refs 6, 7), are arranged in stripe-like clusters which are largely segregated from one another and which are closely related to the pattern of CO stripes.
Concomitant electrophysiological recordings from V2 indicate that groups of cells having similar receptive field properties are clustered within the subregions defined by these anatomical techniques.
