 MMAFighting.com - The Return(s) of Vitor Belfort
The genesis of Vitor Belfort’s mixed martial arts career is one of the more attractive and colorful in the history of the sport.
Here’s an idea of how Belfort functions: he claimed in his fight against Ortiz that he felt he had won the first two rounds and decided to take it easier in the third, a tactic that contributed to his loss.
But responsibility for his performances lies solely on Belfort, who entered MMA and NHB as a contender destined for fame and regressed into the inconsistent fighter whose ability to deal with tough competition is questionable.

MMAFighting.com - Vitor Belfort bringing copies of autobiography to Strikeforce
Belfort’s return to the cage comes off the heels of his successful debut in the sport of professional boxing.
While Belfort has claimed victories over a host of big names in the sport including Randy Couture, Heath Herring, and Gilbert Yvel, it was his stunning 44 second stoppage of Wanderlei Silva on October 16, 1998 that remains his greatest conquest to date as well as one of the sport’s most memorable moments.
A technical knockout was declared after Belfort unloaded an onslaught of punches that forced Silva back from one end of the cage to the other.

MMA WEEKLY - Your #1 Source for Daily MMA News, Interviews, Multimedia, and More
Belfort has lost four of his last five fights, with the lone victory coming against Anthony Rea, and the losses coming at the hands of Alistair Overeem (twice), Randy Couture, and Tito Ortiz.
Also, Belfort's main event fight against Overeem in San Jose last weekend was regarded as so bad that more than half of the crowd left the arena before the fight was over, which is usually not something that leads to a new contract with a major MMA promotion.
Belfort's opponent, the 37-year-old Yoshiki Takahashi, lost to Heath Herring in early 2004 and then lost to Igor Vovchanchyn via brutal knockout in early 2005.

Belfort circled into and away from a jittery Eastman for about a minute until “The Beast Man” miscalculated a shoot and found himself on the receiving end of a glancing knee and then a crippling knee, dropping him down into the fence with stars in his eyes and birds circling his head.
Another thing to take note is that Belfort wants to remain in the UFC in hopes of landing a rematch with Couture and challenge for the light heavyweight title before Tito Ortiz gets off his rump and decides what he will do.
Vitor is younger and an all-around better fighter than Coleman and after speaking with him at length after UFC 43, he is convincing in his attitude.

Before Vitor Belfrot's loss to Alistair Overeem at last weekend's Strikeforce show, I briefly talked about the fact that his career has been a disappointement.
There is no statement from Belfort on the subject, no opinion as to whether Belfort may stop fighting, nothing.
There is only the conclusion that Vitor is "at a crossroads," and must start winning if he is going to revive his career.
