  Vitruvian module
A module (Latin modulus, a measure) is a term that was in use among Roman architects, corresponding to the semidiameter of the column at its base.
The module was divided by the 16th century theorists into thirty parts, called minutes, allowing for much greater accuracy than was thought necessary by Vitruvius, whose subdivision was usually six parts.
The tendency in Beaux Arts architectural training was to adopt the whole columnar diameter as the module when determining the height of the column or entablature or any of their subdivisions.

This wooden board proves that the ancient Egyptians used a composition of modules - the repetition of the same module throughout the whole composition - while constructing a human figure whose proportions were the foundation of all compositions.
This relation is also suggestive of the height 20 modules, since it is nicely fitting into the divisions of the figure represented in drawing, it fits three times in the height of the the seated figure, whereas it would fit four times in the standing, a simplicity that is suggestive.
The difference between the circle and the inscribed square is 3 modules on both sides, or the height from shoulders to the top of the head, which fits in the height of the seating figure 5 times.

Proportion consists in taking a fixed module, in each case, both for the parts of a building and for the whole, by which the method of symmetry is put to practice.
Vitruvius postulates the smallest module the division of 10 which also resembles the Tetraktys along with the previously mentioned diagonal of the square, 34 palms long: (1x2x3x4)+(1+2+3+4) = 34 - the Tetraktys numbers multiplied and added up.
The predominating module of the composition of human body is eight and many lines on the drawing coincide with the lines of the modular plain.

The height of the architrave is to be one module including the taenia and guttae; the taenia is to be the seventh part of a module; the length of the guttae under the taenia corresponds to the triglyphs, and is to hang down, including the fillet, the sixth part of a module.
Above the architrave are to be placed the triglyphs with metopes; the trigplyphs being a module and a half high and one module wide in front, and so distributed that in the columns both at the corners and in the middle, they are placed over the centres.
This is in strong contrast to Greek architecture where the thickness of the architrave didn't depend from a module and approximated the upper diameter of the column.
