Vitsebsk (Belarusian: Ві́цебск (Viciebsk); Russian: Ви́тебск (Vitebsk); Polish: Witebsk) is a city in Belarus, near the border with Russia and Latvia.
Vitsebsk developed from a river harbour where the Vitba (Віцьба, from which it derives its name) flows into the larger Daugava (in Belarusian, Dzvina).
In June 1992, a monument to Chagall was erected on his native Pokrovskaja street and a memorial inscription placed on the wall of his house.

Vitsebsk (Belarusian : Ві́цебск; (Vitsebsk); Russian : Ви́тебск (Vitebsk)) is a city with about 400,000 inhabitants in Belarus, near the border with Russia and Latvia.
A teacher from Pershamayski district of Vitsebsk said: “Our school receives the plan where it is stated how many copies of certain editions it is to receive on subscription: for instance, “Vitsbichy” — 5 copies per form, “Sovetskaya Belorussiya” — 2 copies.
Vitsebsk teachers also say that soon the control of subscription can become yet harder: in some of the schools teachers are ordered to find out what newspapers the children’s parents subscribed to and whether they subscribed to such independent newspapers as “Vitsebski Kuryer” and put down this information.

50 people were injured in Vitsebsk from a blast of a bomb in the center of the city.
The Prosecutor’s office brought up a criminal case “murder attempt”, Interfax was told by police colonel Valyantsin Patapovich, who is in Vitsebsk at the scene now.
The autumn fair has been cancelled in the city in connection with the accident, deputy head of the Vitsebsk regional executive committee Pyotr Yuzhyk said.

On January 30 in the evening in the doorway of her block of flats in the Flyorau Street in Vorsha Liudmila Ananyeva, the wife of the chairman of the Vitsebsk branch of the United Civil Party Henadz Ananyeu, was beaten up by an unknown.
It was dark when Liudmila came home, and she could not see the face of the criminal who had hit her on the head five times.
