Vixen is an all female American rock and roll band which achieved some success during the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Vixen was formed in Minnesota in 1980 by guitarist Jan Kuehnemund while still at high school.
In 1988 the band were signed to EMI and they began recording their debut album Vixen which was released in September 1988.

Jan had been playing in a band with some girls from her neighbourhood, which was initially called Genesis but changed its name to Vixen when another band with that name became popular.
All the Vixen videoclips were compiled in 1991 on a VHS tape "Revved Up", their only official video tape, which also includes some interviews with all the members and extra footage.
Later in 1991 Roxy started a band with her sister Maxine and Lenita Erickson called Hell's Belles and in 93 Roxy and Maxine played as Madam X again.

In 1988, VIXEN released their self-titled album and the first single "Edge Of A Broken Heart" was written by Richard Marx.

This is not the all-female band VIXEN, but it’s the original VIXEN from Hawaii, presenting a great compilation album containing the finest heavy metal imaginable.
VIXEN was one of a very few bands coming from Hawaii in those days, next to HAWAII, ALOHA and SACRED RITE.
The band released an EP called “Made In Hawaii”, which was also released as a picture disc, in a very limited quantity.

Looking back now, I have to laugh at how cheesy Vixen were but at the time I thought their music was the greatest thing since sliced bread.
Granted the band really didn't write most of the songs on their debut album, I didn't care at the time.
Vixen may not have been as hard as L7 or Babes in Toyland but they deserve their spot in rock music.

For most of the 1990s, Vixen wasn't heard from much, and it wasn't until 1998's Tangerine on CMC International that Vixen recorded a third album.

The Queens of Metal the Female Bon Jovi however you have heard Vixen described, one of the things you will definitely know is that they were one of the most successful female rock bands in the world.
Vixen was founded in Minnesota by Jan Kuehnemund, and brought to Los Angeles in the mid 80s where they continued to gig and build up an impressive following, finally cracking the big time in the late 80s.

 Rough Edge: Vixen CD Reviews
Vixen fans in particular, however, will love the gems contained on this CD.
It was designed to have a rough edge that other music didn't have and it was supposed to be fun party music.
Other than the fact it's an all grrrl band, however, the music on "Rev It Up" could have come from any other popular artist of the era.

The new incarnation of the band really seems to fit, though not into those 80’s spandex miniskirts so much at this point, but nevertheless, the band has progressed beyond the sugary tart-fest, if you will, to bring more thought-out and complex songs to the table.
Supporting Vixen, was Enuff Znuff who have managed to maintain a steady tour itinerary while dabbling in multiple sides project all through the last two decades.
Super Mercado, a band out of Chicago Illinois, proved to be the surprise treat of the evening, and in my opinion, has the talent to break into the mainstream.

Support came from Dante’s Fox a band that I have seen once, many years ago and I was not too eager to see again.
I should let you know that I am the proud owner of the first two Vixen albums, but I have to be honest and say that these girls definitely can’t compete with bands like Girlschool.

Not the all-female rock/glam band, this Vixen was one of Marty Friedman's first bands after moving to Hawaii (for an even earlier Friedman band, see Tension).
The band appeared on a Metal Massacre compilation around the time of the EP.
Presumably the band was in this state for only a short time, because soon afterward the band changed lineups and name, becoming Hawaii.

 Sleaze Roxx: Vixen - The Works
Not to be confused with the sexy female pop-metal band from the late 80's, this version of Vixen recorded as early as 1981 and is remember primarily for featuring the guitar shredding of Marty Friedman -- later of Megadeth.
The Works is a collection of demos and recordings that surfaced during the band's 1981-83 run, so some of the sound quality is less then perfect.
However it is tunes such as "New Age Rock-N-Roller", "Rocking Me Hard" and the cover of "House Of The Rising The Sun", in which La Chance reigns in her voice, that I enjoy most.

 Rock n Roll Experience - Vixen
It's funny how when you look at pictures of the band from back in the day, they were wearing the same things as the guys, except when you see Vixen wearing those cloths it makes sense lol!
The Funny thing also, was that I never knew the band released a 3rd CD until I saw that special, but it was not recorded by the entire band, just 2 members.
All in all, Vixen were a fluffy band that paid no attention to the worries of the world, they played/sang/wrote powerful rockers & ballads about living & loving & partying & if you really want a great party CD, check out the bands 2 new re-issues!
