Viz   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
Viz tested the waters with shoujo manga in the mid-90's by publishing a few select titles under the "Flower Comics" label, but this was unsuccessful and quickly shelved (no doubt due to the death of female customers in comicbook specialty shops at the time).
Viz has gone thru a couple minor name changes and, as of April 2005, is legally known as Viz Media.
Viz tested the waters with shoujo manga in the mid-90's by publishing a few select titles: X/1999 and Moto HAGIO's They Were Eleven were published as monthly comics, and a number of short stories ran in the now-defunct Manga Vizion.

Viz's merciless ridiculing of stars and stereotypes, laced with much anarchic iconoclasm, proved the perfect antidote in an era of PC student politics and emerging celebrity culture.

Ninth Art - Article 10: Vis A Viz
VIZ's routine was - and still is - adult comedy, reusing the format of short strips which have been commonplace in British children's comics for decades.
VIZ started off in 1979 with a print run of 150, and peaked a decade later with a circulation of one million.
VIZ, not unreasonably, ploughed on with the format that had served it well since 1979, and shrugged its shoulders as the zeitgeist moved on.

Viz is a popular British adult comic magazine that has been running since 1979.
The comic was started in Newcastle upon Tyne in December 1979 by Chris Donald who produced the comic from his bedroom in his parents' Jesmond home, with help from his brother Simon and friend Jim Brownlow.
Jimmy_Carr is one of the latest targets of Viz, being lambasted as a sham of a comedian by having photographs of himself posing with employees who have won mundane awards at meaningless corporate events.

Preceding the fall debut of new Pokémon games, the launch of the Pokémon Live stage show, and new episodes of the number one kids' TV series, the comic strip follows the familiar adventures of Ash, Misty, Pikachu and their friends at home and on the road, questing to become Pokémon trainers.
The Pokémon comic strip, however, features more comical overtones than the animated series or games, with a wry sense of humor that will appeal to adults and kids alike.
No newcomer to the Pokémon scene, Viz has been an integral part of the lucrative franchise since its U.S. inception, publishing four separate Pokémon comic series in two years, one of which was America's best-selling comic for over nine months and is credited with revitalizing the comics industry.

When ANN contacted Viz to ask if the changes were being made across the board we were informed that Viz will be discussing the topic in the near future but at this time no comment could be made.
After much consideration, Viz has decided that single-story monthly comics are not the best format for manga (which, in Japan, is published only in anthology magazines or graphic novels).
