In Buda, Vlad attended the coronation of Ladislas V of Habsburg as King of Hungary, and was invested as defender of Transylvania with headquarters at Sibiu.
Vlad Tepes was not very tall, but stocky and strong, with a bull's neck, broad shoulders, a reddish face, a strong and aquiline nose, large, deep-set, green eyes, long eyelashes and bushy fl eyebrows, which gave him a threatening appearance.

It was first mentioned on 19 July 1498 during the rule of Radu cel Mare, the son of Vlad Călugărul, who donated the land around Găeşti to the Monastery of Râncăciov.
In 1807, most of the buildings of Găeşti were destroyed by a fire, then in 1812, it was hit by the plague.

During this struggle the prince of Wallachia, Vlad Tepes (known as the Impaler, because he rarely ate a meal without a Turk writhing on a stake in front of him), became a hero; he later became associated with Dracula.
Vlad II (1431, 1436-1442, 1444-1447), also known as Vlad "Dracul", son of Mircea the Old and father of Vlad Tzepesh ("the Impaler") issued small anepigraphic bani in billon, extremely rare today (about ten specimens are known, most of them belonging to several museums in Romania and only a few in private collections.
The obverse bears the Wallachian eagle, while the reverse shows a mithical beast, a dragon, identical to the dragon on Vlad Dracul's seals (this was the criterium for assigning the issue to this ruler).

Emperor Sigismund gave a necklace to Vlad and a golden medallion with a dragon engraved on it, the badge of the knights of the Order, bearing the name of the mystical animal.
Waiting for his coronation, Vlad with his family went to Sighisoara in Transylvania, where he set up a mint using the engraving of the medallion, a dragon, to emboss his coins.
His second son, Vlad, was taken hostage by the Turks and then went to live with his uncle Iancu de Hunedoara, a Romanian nobleman whose daughter married Vlad and he became prince of Wallachia in August 1456.
