Vladimir presumably proved to be the most promising candidate as he was eventually chosen over his younger half-brother Abulurd Harkonnen.

Fictional character - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Three of the principle characters in Lord of the Flies can be said to symbolize elements of civilization: Ralph represents the civilizing instinct; Jack represents the savage instinct; Piggy represents the rational side of human nature.
Minor characters, or stock characters, are often the focus of this kind of analysis since they tend to rely more heavily on stereotypes than more central characters.
The protagonist (main character, sometimes known as the "hero" or the "heroine") of a traditional novel is almost always a round character; a minor, supporting character in the same novel may be a flat character.

Bill Tytla - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Vladimir Peter Tytla (October 25, 1904–December 30, 1968) was one of the original Disney animators and is considered by many to be the best character animator working during The Golden Age of Hollywood animation.
Vladimir Peter Tytla was born on October 25, 1904 in Yonkers, New York, USA.
With Vladimir, "everything was instinctive and intuitive, and now the vibes were all wrong." Due to the economics of the studio at the time, assignments were less challenging.

Vladimir (Waiting for Godot) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Vladimir is deeply concerned with appearances, and goes to great lengths to make sure Estragon behaves so that his own dignity is preserved.
This hat focus (in terms of being head centred) may be interpreted as being representative of his higher status (see Estragon's boots) and his intellectual nature: because of this, he is usually taller than Estragon, but this is a convention of the theatre and is not written in the play.
Unlike all the other characters, Vladimir has a sense of the passage of time (only he says he remembers the events of Act I, although it is possible Lucky might recall them: see Lucky and Vladimir).

NationMaster - Encyclopedia: Vladimir (character)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-30)
He is an "optimist" (in a very loose sense of the word) and represents the intellectual side of the of the two main characters, in contrast to his companion Estragon's earthy simplicity.
He is also a bit of a pack rat: he carries all the food the tramps have (though he never eats himself), and has other (to quote the play) "miscellaneous" junk in various pockets.
The protagonist (main character, sometimes known as the "hero" or the "heroine") of a novel is certain to be a round character; a minor, supporting character in the same novel may be a flat character.

The play represents characters whose every action is rubbish, who cannot think, who spend their time wasting away in unwitting contact with their effects.

Vladimir correlates some of their [Estragon and Vladimir's] actions to the general concerns of mankind, seen in his uttering, 'All mankind is in us'" (Roberts 46).
This plebian image of Estragon is contrasted with the image of Vladimir's hat, which is typically associated with the upper class, thus the elite, be it intellectually (as is in the case of the play) or otherwise.
The suggestion that Vladimir's knowledge of Latin and the Bible displaying a type of formal education is contrasted with his sporadic, trivial understanding of the latter, which is oftentimes the sign of a person who is self-taught.

Apropos of Lenin's LETTERS TO RELATIVES
Vladimir Ilyich, of course, did not write to mother on business matters, but at t~e same time he had nothing to hide from her, knowing that she was fully in sympathy with his revolutionary efforts and all his work.
Vladimir Ilyich showed that the author did not stress the class character of the movement sufficiently, that he was too kindly towards the Frondist agrarians and should have spoken of using them but not of supporting them.
In Vladimir Ilyich’s letters to his relatives, therefore, we see his comments on the struggle for the correct under standing of Marxism and for its correct application at the various stages of development of the proletarian movement which he conducted throughout his life.

Waiting for Godot: Significance -- Essay at LiteratureClassics.com
Vladimir and Estragon are the faithful adherents to God, and wait for Him, or a messianic figure, to come.
Perhaps Vladimir and Estragon are representatives of hope by demonstrating unwavering faith to a God who does not present himself or, on the other hand, are showing the folly of blind faith as espoused by Beckett.
When Vladimir and Estragon are referred to with their nicknames, all five names of the play have two syllables and end in a vowel sound.

Vladimir gets by as an immigration clerk, eking out a living in a cruddy New York City apartment while accumulating an array of quirky acquaintances, from a wealthy but disheveled old man (who claims his electric fan speaks to him) desperate for citizenship to Challa, a portly S/M queen.
Vladimir is the son of immigrants who came to the U.S. via a Carter administration swap (American wheat for Russian Jews); his father, a doctor prone to dreams of suicide and complicated medical schemes, and his mother, an entrepreneur who makes fun of her son's gait, give him the inestimable gift of alienation.
Vladimir is the antithesis of his high powered parents, both energetic if unorthodox and unethical professionals (he a doctor, she an investment banker), for whom, in the traditional Russian way, he loves with unrefined loathing.

Vladimir Klitschko - A World Class Heart - Boxing News
It's pretty clear that it wasn’t so much that Vladimir was defeated by someone better then him, but rather it was a matter of him trying to hard and using up all his energy by punching himself out.
What is key, however, is that once Vladimir was being beaten in the last round of the fight, he resolved himself to stand in there, and take it like a man. Notice, it has nothing to do with his skill, but his willingness and determination to try until the last.
The point here, is not whether or not Vladimir has a weak chin, or whether or not his stool sample was lost in the mix.

When Vladimir Nabokov’s character Krug discovers that he is a fictional character in the novel Bend Sinister, Nabokov has to intervene for his creation by driving him mad so that he won’t have to deal with the full impact of the discovery.
Morrison only provides the briefest of introductory character summaries, the clunkiest dialogue in the book, assuming that we can't help but be familiar with the archetypes of Batman’s world, and the story suffers as a result.
