Topic: Vladimir Lefebvre

In the News (Wed 15 Feb 12)

SCIENTIFIC AND SOCIO-CULTURAL ROLE OF REFLEXIVE MOVEMENT IN RUSSIA
Lefebvre’s principal achievement is that he took the notion of reasoning out of the area of philosophy, which was highly ideologized at that time, to apply it in the field of general systemic research.
Lefebvre devised a language to describe separate objects and actions these objects are subjected to (reflexive games, reflexive control), even though he chose to call them “subjects” in order to conveniently incorporate them into the context of reflexive control or a reflexive game.
As for Lefebvre, he was mostly engaged in creating the focusing part of reflexion and appropriate empirical support, which objectively served as a special tool to be used in that particular direction, which was due to the necessity for Lefebvre to realize his own specific goals.

 Summary of topic Human Choice
Lefebvre (1995) approaches the anthropic principle through a mathematical formalism he has developed over some decades, in which self-reference plays a central role.
In particular, and most important: (a) the problem of free will is argued to enter in an arbitrary form, and (b) the anthropic principle should (and could) not be combined with any non-necessary statement of the kind discussed in the target paper.
It is argued that Lefebvre's efforts are an important contribution to injecting rigorous deductive reasoning into intuitive approaches to human reflexive cognition.

PSYCHOLOGICAL ADJUSTMENT TO ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL CHANGE
Although Lefebvre suggests that a person learns one of the two ethical systems at an early age and that little change thereafter is possible, Lawrence Kohlberg claimed that moral development is not only possible but universal, although some people progress farther than others.
Lefebvre’s work is a major contribution to comparative psychology and has important implications for those engaged in negotiations involving people from East and West, whether for purposes of diplomacy or business.
Lefebvre's second ethical system could be seen as similar to Kohlberg's first stage of moral reasoning.

Lefebvre's ideas are so obvious that you wonder if he might be kidding.
Lefebvre believes human decision-making is so straightforward that simple equations can describe how an individual's behavior arises from his or her self-image as it is shaped by other people and the environment.

Now, in a new paper, Lefebvre and Efremov hypothesize that fl holes might be just the sort of cosmic objects that could behave intelligently In an article to appear in the Russian publication Zemlia i Vselennaya (Earth and Universe), the scientists cite several parallels between fl holes and brains.
Lefebvre and Efremov cite giant arcs of stars seen in some galaxies as evidence of purposeful star generation.
In fact, the concept of intelligence entertained by Earthlings may seem unimaginably primitive to higher civilizations elsewhere in the cosmos.' Perhaps, Lefebvre and Efremov speculate, an ancient civilization eventually acquires an advanced awareness, realizing that soon it is destined to reach a radically new plane of sophistication.

Analyzing other subsequent experiments we found that the frequencies of choice of the positive pole lie in the interval 0.60-0.64 (see review in Lefebvre, 1992b) and suggested that the golden section is not limited to evaluations of other people but appears in binary choice or categorical estimation of stimuli without measurable qualities (Lefebvre, 1985; 1990).
We consider a human being possessing a specialized functional processor generating an "image of the self," which, in turn, generates a second "image of the self." The first "image of the self" is related to the subject's direct feelings; the second order "image of the self" allows the subject to "see" himself feeling.

Vladimir A. Lefebvre's second edition of his 1982 "Algebra of Conscience" investigates the phenomenon of conscience, an essential human attribute, and the hypothesis of two fundamentally different ethical systems determining the normal patterns of human behavior in situations of conflict.
From this, Lefebvre theorizes that one cannot predict which alternative will be chosen or even the probabilities with which they will be chosen.
Lefebvre is a researcher in the School of Social Sciences; his academic research focuses on mathematical modeling of mental phenomena, especially in the area of moral cognition.

With accolades such as those, it stood to reason that when Russian President Vladimir Putin needed presidential-class accommodations and service to host visiting heads of state for celebrations marking the tricentennial of the founding of St. Petersburg, he would look to Silversea Cruises' fleet and hand-pick the Silver Whisper.
