Jarvis Lab -- Evolution of Brain Stuctures for Vocal Learning
It is known to be present in only 6 groups of animals: 3 groups of birds (parrots, songbirds, and hummingbirds) and 3 groups of mammals (bats, cetaceans[whales/dolphins], and humans).
Vocal learning is the ability to imitate sounds that you hear, such as a human or a parrot imitating the sound "sit".
If according to the current dominant hypothesis, vocal learning evolved independently in all 6 vocal learning groups within the past 65 million years, then the striking similarities in brain structures of at least the 3 avian groups suggest that there a strong epigenetic constraints on how vocal learning can evolve.

The early 60’s were dominated by vocal groups like the Drifters who charted in 1960 with “Save the last Dance for me”, and the Tokens who scored with “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”, and who could forget Joey Dee and the Starliters “Peppermint Twist, Part 1” in 1962.
Though there were less than a handful of old time vocal groups which reached number one status during the second half of the decade, the most notable return to the top of the charts had to be the Beach Boys who returned to fame with the tropical “Kokomo” in 1988.
Times were definitely changing, as so many of the new vocal groups were taking control of the charts from the “established” bands of the early part of the decade as well as previous decades.
