	Voice of the Martyrs - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Voice of the Martyrs (VOM) is a Christian organisation which provides support for persecuted Christians around the world.
		It is believed that there are hundreds of thousands of Christian martyrs - those being killed because of their Christian faith - each year, and many more who are tortured, imprisoned and harassed for being Christians.
		Voice of the Martyrs was started in 1967 by Richard Wurmbrand, who was a Romanian Lutheran pastor when Romania was taken over by the USSR in 1944.

		A Christian martyr is one who chooses to die, usually by means of a cruel or tortured means like stoning, crucifixion, beheading, etc., instead of renouncing a core principle or belief about their Christian faith.
		The first Christian martyr was Saint Stephen as recorded in the Acts of the Apostles (6:8-8:3) who was stoned to death for his faith.
		Stephen was killed (i.e., martyred) for his support, belief and faith in Jesus of Nazareth as the Messiah.
