Voice production - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Voice production is the generation of sound in the human speech organs.
The larynx or voice box is a cylindrical framework of cartilage that serves to anchor the vocal chords while they contract as a pair of lips to impede that airflow, until the vocal chords are periodically forced apart by the increasing air pressure from the lungs.
Voiced phonemes such as the pure vowels are by definition distinguished by the buzzing sound of this periodic oscillation of the vocal chords.

Voice production is the generation of sound in the human (Any of the organs involved in speech production) speech organs.
The sound production with which we are concerned begins with compression of the lungs to create a reservoir of relatively high pressure, and a (often) continuous airflow up and out through the vocal tract.
Voiced ((linguistics) one of a small set of speech sounds that are distinguished by the speakers of a particular language) phonemes such as the pure vowels are by definition distinguished by the buzzing sound of this periodic oscillation of the vocal chords.

During the production of the chest voice, the space between the arytenoid cartilages is open, and between the vocal cords there is an ellipsoidal opening which gradually closes as the pitch of the sound rises (see figs.
Hoarseness is caused by roughness or swelling of the cords.
The tone produced by the vocal cords is a mixed one, composed of a fundamental and partials, and certain of the partials are strengthened by the resonance of the air in the air-passages and in the pharyngeal and oral cavities.

Voice therapy may help the patient compensate for the neurologic problem and improve other components of voice that are not directly affected by the disorder.
Success of voice therapy in patients with unilateral vocal fold immobility is dependent on the position of the paralyzed vocal fold, the remaining vocal fold bulk, the tension present in the immobilized fold, the duration of the disorder, and surgical correction if performed.
Voice therapy is an essential component of the overall treatment of a patient with a voice disorder.

The physical production of voice has been explained for a long time by the myoelastic or aerodynamic theory, as follows: when the vocal cords are brought into the closed position of phonation by the adducting muscles, a coordinated expiratory effort sets in.
All vowels are normally voiced, but consonants may be either voiced or voiceless (i.e., uttered without vibration of the vocal cords).
The liquid consonant l and the nasal m, n, ng (as in “sing”) are normally voiced in English, and the stops, fricatives, and affricates characteristically possess...
