 APESHIT - Reviews - SATYRICON - Volcano
Over the next fifty-four minutes, Volcano offers a dark, pessimistic view of life, and is filled with bitter disgust and contempt, as if song titles that feature the words "angst", "hatred", and "suffering" hadn't already clued you in as to what to expect.
So while SATYRICON is unafraid to experiment on Volcano, they haven't forgotten their grim black metal roots, and that's what ultimately separates the men from the filth.
But one listen to the snarling growls of frontman Satyr and Frost's double-bass and blast beats from opening track, "With Ravenous Hunger," and it's obvious that the band's encounters with the mainstream haven't influenced the band in the least.

Volcano is the culmination of ideas and sounds that the band has been experimenting and perfecting since their formation, and it takes all of the good from each of their past releases and attaches it to some truly stellar musicianship.
Volcano is definitely their best album, and it's definitely about time the band has stopped teasing everybody with their talents and just made a stunning album.
This is an ambitious, brillliantly produced album that completely fails as a musical statement because of its generic themes and poor songwriting.

Gatsby's American Dream - Volcano (Fearless Records) - MusicRemedy.com, Brings Music to Life
Showcasing the band’s diversity, Volcano contains everything from “Fable,” a Strokes-esque pop song about (what else?) The Lord Of The Flies, to “A Mind Of Metal And Wheels,” which finds Newsham and Huffman trading vocal lines alongside the most unironic use of a cowbell in ages.
The band took this story of pride and ignorance and let it inspire the songs on Volcano.
Filled with literary references ranging from Jurassic Park and The Lord Of The Rings trilogy to Interview With A Vampire and The Lord Of The Flies, Volcano is not easy music to swallow—and it’s not meant to be, says guitarist Bobby Darling.

Their music has not only influenced younger bands, but the positive aura the band puts out - the vibe of strong lyrics and solid songwriting - has made them role models to the thousands of fans that flock to see them year in and year out on sold-out world tours.

 Satyricon: Black Metal from Norway
Satyricon have always been a frustrating proposition what with their inconsistency and dubious sentiments, but Volcano finds this band utterly lost in a search for clear focus of intent and purpose of being.
All aspects of the band’s presentation have undergone this shift, from the music and lyrics to the visual display, to reflect a grimness of life as lived by disgusting demons under the guise of humans rather than the ancient warrior spirit Satyricon were previously enamored with.
The greatest offender here however, is the band’s inability to maintain consistency over the course of a single song, something that has plagued this act from the beginning and seems to be suffering from even more carelessness and lack of vision.

The 18000 personnel and their dependents were evacuated from the base before the volcanic eruption, as were over 60000 people that were living on the slopes and valleys around the volcano, thus saving many thousands of lives.
The eruption had two major environmental effects which are readily documented from low-Earth orbit: the distribution of vast quantities of sulfur dioxide aerosols into the stratosphere; and the post-eruption mudflows, or lahars, which are recognized as the major natural hazard from the eruption.
The 1991 eruption of Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines is well known for its near-global effects on the atmosphere and climate due to the large amount of sulfur dioxide that was injected into the upper atmosphere.
