		The album starts off with an almost upbeat, new-Hypocrisy type vibe and slowly but surely degenerates into a more dismal fl metal tone that owes a lot to both the doom and NWOBHM movements.
		The album definitely finishes stronger than it starts, and I find its strongest songs to be those that hearken back to a more pure form of fl metal.
		This album should propel Satyricon into the upper echelon of the new wave of metallic elite, and touring with Morbid Angel should only help the cause.

		This is an extremely solid album that leaves little to be desired for me. I have yet to hear Ribbons and Sugar, which I'm told is solid as well.

		Unfortunately, the album's repetition and lack of melodic elements sometimes becomes rather tedious, as is the case with the album closing "Black Lava," an attempt at a 14 minute epic that instead sounds like a 4 minute song that someone put on repeat play.
		The album is well mixed and produced, avoiding the muddled mess of buried vocals and practically inaudible instrumental parts that plague many other fl metal releases.
		While I wouldn't go as far as saying that Volcano is the future of fl metal, I would say that it's an interesting blend of various metal sub-genres that has resulted in a somewhat flawed but fairly strong fl metal release.
