		Lusis told BNS that he had run for the Riga City Council in municipal elections but agreed to run in the parliament elections on a suggestion by Labor Party leader Aivars Kreituss.
		Lusis was among the ten best javelin throwers in the world from 1953 to 1970.
		At present he is advising his son Voldemars Lusis, a member of the Latvian Olympic team.
