Powering the 2004 Volkswagen Touareg is your choice of a 220-horsepower, 3.2-liter V6 that produces 225 pound-feet of torque; a 4.2-liter V8 that makes 310 ponies and 302 lb.-ft. of thrust; or a 5.0-liter, turbodiesel V10 with the same amount of horsepower as the V8 but 553 lb.-ft. of grunt.
For the record, Volkswagen states that the Touareg V8’s fuel economy is rated 14 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway by the EPA.
Had the 2004 Volkswagen Touareg been easier to drive smoothly in the city, had it stunned us with capability on a twisty road, and yes, perhaps if we had challenged it more thoroughly in the bush, perhaps we’d be more forgiving of the awful cockpit ergonomics.
