The Byzantine historian Joannes Zonaras states that after the Roman conquest, the population of Velzna was relocated to a new city, named Volsinii (a Latinization of Velzna), and the original city of Velzna was destroyed.
The location of Etruscan Velzna is unknown: many historians place it at or near the modern Orvieto, and some place it at or near Bolsena.
Volsinii eventually became the modern Italian city of Bolsena.

The temple of this goddess seems to have been of peculiar sanctity, for it was made the national calendar — a nail being driven into it every year, as into the temple of Jove on the Capitol of Rome.

Orvieto - History   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
The site of this settlement has in fact been identified with the Etruscan center of Velzna (Volsinii in Latin), a city which began to flourish in the beginning of the 6th century B.C. This economic prosperity was based mainly upon the production of ceramics and on bronze work.
From a political point of view, Velzna was in the forefront of the struggle against Roman expansionism, as a result of which in 254 B.C., having been occupied by the enemy armies, it was razed to the ground.
In fact, Velzna became known as Volsinii Veteres (Ancient Volsinii) or Urbs Vetus (the Old City) as distinguished from Volsinii Novi (New Volsinii), which today is known as Bolsena.

As the woman quietly slipped away to appraise her husband of the situation, realising that, if he responded quickly, he should be able to catch the naked 16 year-olds in the middle of their unauthorised union, her smirk broadened at the thought of what was to come.
He worried that the news, that he was not involved with a girl in Rome because he was otherwise enthralled with a young barbarian eunuch slave, might induce fatal heart palpitations in his female parent.
She had heard, from fellow female gossips in Volsinii, exaggerated but, to her, thoroughly convincing and alarming tales about the money-grabbing harlots of Rome, who were supposed to be forever looking out for handsome, rich but gullible bachelors to ensnare.
