  Volunteer Park (Seattle) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Volunteer Park was acquired by the city of Seattle for $2,000 in 1876 from J.M. Colman.
The park then became known as "City Park." In 1901, it was renamed "Volunteer Park" to honor the volunteers who served in the Spanish-American War.
The park includes a conservatory, completed in 1912; a water tower with an observation deck; a reservoir; the Seattle Asian Art Museum; and a sculpture, Black Sun, by Isamu Noguchi.

Their proposal that the park include an observation tower was fulfilled in 1906, when the city built a water tower whose deck, open to the public, provided panoramic views of downtown, the harbor and the Cascade and Olympic Ranges.
Between 1906 and 1912 the citizens of Seattle authorized several million dollars in bond issues to fulfill most, though not all, of the Olmsteds' proposals for Volunteer Park and the rest of the city.

Volunteer Park is located on Capitol Hill between E Prospect and E Galer streets and Federal Avenue E and 15th Avenue E. The land is first used as a cemetery, then as a city park.
In 1903, the park is redesigned by the Olmsted Bros. and in 1907 the Volunteer Park water tower is built.
City Park nested for 10 years more until the Olmsted firm was hired in 1903 to devise a city-wide plan for parks and boulevards.
