		Volvo celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 1977 and released a limited edition version of the 240, the 244DL "anniversary" car.
		During 1977 Volvo also won British awards for car safety and in the USA the 240 was selected to develop guidelines for US safety standards.
		I am sure the Volvo 200 will be seen on the roads for many years to come and one day I expect to see it listed as one of the great classic cars of the great era of motoring.

		I recently bought a 240 wagon at a reduced price because the head gasket and water pump were leaking coolant down the passenger side of the engine block.

		Since most Volvos are "boxy but safe" - shaped with aerodynamics somewhat similar to that of a brick, and they're Swedish...the discussion group focused on Volvos was named "SwedishBricks".
		Many of us own 240 series cars, and the discussions on the mailing list tend to focus on maintenance and performance enhancements for these cars first built in the early '70s and on through the early '90s.
		Robin Williams in Garp drove an older Volvo, a PV 544, Roger Moore as the Saint drove an 1800, with the beautiful bull horns of the early English-built cars, and re-issue of the Saint featured a new C-70.

		A 1983 240 Turbo and a 1991 740 Turbo.
		This is a problem on early to mid 80's Volvos, which means the 240 Turbo's and, of course, the Harness for the Turbo's is 2-3 times more expensive than a normally aspirated 240(Think $900 or so).
		Volvos are relatively heavy cars to push around with 115 hp (vs. 160 for turbo w/ intercoler).

		As a result, this manual is objectionably weak at covering the electronic fuel injection and ignition systems found on most 1983 and newer US model Volvo's - which just happens to be one area of particular interest to most owners - what to do when the "check engine" light comes on.
