Volvo proved in the past few years, with their 80 series sedans and 70 series coupes (which even made it into a James Bond movie!) that they had it in them…if they tried.
It will be to Volvo dealers…they have been screaming for a line like this for the last half of this decade, as competitive import cars were offering more style and performance for much less of a price tag than the average Volvo offered.
S40 and V40 will be a real test for Volvo dealers, and we'll find out soon if they can sell and service a larger number of cars then they ever have before.

About 15 years ago (about the time this movie was released), Volvo's PR flacks were all stoked for the "boxy but good" shout out in the movie, as they thought it would help shake the brand's then somewhat "plain" image.
Sure, Volvo's S40 isn't exactly new to these shores, but the current design is still "fresh" in our eyes.
Volvo's 2.4 liter turbocharged five puts out a respectable 218 horsepower @ 5000 rpm and offers a very nice 236 lb.-ft. of torque from 1500 rpm all the way to 4800 revolutions per minute.
