Amazon.ca: DVD: Von Ryan's Express (Widescreen)
The scene where Ryan forces the Italian commandant (Adolfo Celi) to provide new clothing because the prisoners have all stripped and thrown their rags into a fire is certainly memorable, as is the moment when Ryan guns down the young woman (Raffaella Carra) who has sold them out to the Germans.
Half the movie is taken up by the train chase, which goes through cities being bomb and along treacherous mountain tracks, but the heated exchanges between Ryan and Fincham are at the heart of this film.
The German language skills of the camp's chaplain (Edward Mulhare), are put to good use as he impersonates a Nazi officer allowing the train to continue on its escape route.

DVD Verdict Review - Von Ryan's Express
Von Ryans Express, despite the presence of the always interesting Trevor Howard in a major supporting role, is essentially a Frank Sinatra vehicle.
Stripped of the kibitzing support of his Rat Pack buddies, Sinatra does quite a good job on his own playing Colonel Ryan.
The Password Is Courage (1962, Britain) featured a fine Dirk Bogarde performance and King Rat (1965, Col) was a good adaptation of the James Clavell novel, with fine work from George Segal and Tom Courtenay.

Since forming last year from the lamented ashes of Arab On Radar, the band has already saddled up and headed to Europe.
They have a full US tour and a trip back to Europe planned for the not-so-distant future, hoping to lurch their way back into the hearts and minds of international audiences, like Six Finger Satellite and Arab On Radar did not so long ago.
