		Voodoo is good album, one that I enjoy listening to after spinning the 'Conspiracy' or 'Abigail' one too many times.
		King fans will enjoy it, but modest fans of progmetal would be better suited to dig up his earlier work first.

		After King Diamond left Mercyful Fate, he set out in a different musical direction, abandoning the all-out Satan tunes for more generalized horror stories in the style of H.P. Lovecraft.
		(By the way, don't take the "King" as any sort of comparison to Stephen King...King Diamond is a MUCH better writer!!!) The tale here, as far as I can tell, is about the evil spirit of a stillborn baby (Abigail) who possesses the soul of her great-great-great-granddaughter 200 years later, or something like that.
		I certainly won't go THAT far to describe this album, but clearly, like Meat Loaf's awful Bat Out of Hell II: Back into Hell, this is a pure marketing gimmick thinly disguised as a "return to the old school", and King Diamond ought to be ashamed of himself.

		House of God was the first King Diamond release of the new decade, and featured a very back-to-basics style of songwriting, and a very odd guitar sound barely qualifying as Metal at all so little was it distorted.
		The music is catchier as well as being more complex (for example King told me a while before the album's release that in one part there are three guitar solos playing simultaneously) and the vocals measure up with memorable harmonies and wonderful use of King's full range.
		No, it doesn't sound like an '80s King Diamond album; but it does have that same distinct feel to it possessed by House of God, which links these albums of the '00s to the original and best of the 80s; that indefinable quality that King somehow lost or failed to capture on his '90s releases.

		I have a problem with almost all King Diamond albums ever released, with the exception of "Abigail": I don't initially like them.
		I always thought "The Graveyard" was a bit too theatrical, with too much of King's speaking and whispering, but I recently put it on again and I really liked it.
		Fact is that "Voodoo" is a really OK album but it hasn't yet hit home with me. Some of its tracks are pretty cool (particularly "Voodoo", with scary-sounding guitar additions by Dimebag Darrell), but I couldn't really call it a King Classic.
