In addition, some voodoun have access to secret rituals that let them perform live sacrifices and take the Mojo from them, some have relics that give them the power to hold Mojo in reserve outside of themselves, and some work together in ritual circles to accomplish their tasks.
The Voodoun will have to replace her missing Mojo with wound levels (this is explained more in the Voodoo magic section), in order to properly end the working.
Even if a Voodoun has the chance to, say do a working over the course of a conversation with a stranger, it is extremely unlikely that he would try simply because it increases the difficulty of the working succeeding.

Voodoun Blues is something of a Misty collectible DVD EP that Misty's most devoted fans will definitely want to own, but I think it is important for the potential buyer to know exactly what he/she is getting here.
Shot on 16mm fl and white film, Voodoun Blues is an avant-garde film featuring a classic retro, somewhat expressionistic style.
The original music composed for Voodoun Blues, though, seems to work beautifully and adds depth to the overall presentation.

The other reviewers do a good job of discussing Deren's history of Haitian Voodoun, however, it should be noted that regardless of the merits of this as an historical text, the book is a fascinating read for anyone interested in her film practice.
Maya Deren's "Divine Horsemen" is a poetically rendered exploration of the philosophy and practices of Haitian Voodoun.
This book is essential reading not only for anyone interested in Voodoun, but also for any student of comparative religion, mythology or spirituality.

Although the power of the old voodoo societies is now negligable, it's quite clear that the Orisha themselves do not wish their activities, wisdom, and power revealed to the general public.
As a result, it is up to the "new breed" of voodoun to create their own societies.

In voodoun ceremonies, it isn't uncommon for a loa (spirit) to 'mount' a person.
I put more stock in Magick than some fool on stage, because he is decieving you by slight of hand, smoke and mirrors.
I would think Voodoun, Wicca, and perhaps the more extrodianry parts of Shamanism would qualify as Magick rather than Magic, if any of this even makes any sense.

In Zombie Jamboree [SAAM, 1990.76], a super-natural ritual reflects the voodoun religion's blend of African and Christian beliefs and ceremonies as it tests the very nature of life and death.
As phantasmagorical as Zombie Jamboree appears, it is a highly structured work in which the syncopation of color, shadow, line, and mass is as important as its imagery derived from diverse sources.

The Video Graveyard: Voodoun Blues   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-24)
Shock-O-Rama unleashes the first of their "DVD EPs" which is basically a short film (in this case the directorial debut for their "starlet" Misty Mundae) given a handful of extra features and paired with a couple of other short films (those being Joe Miller's "Sour Milk" and Katie Bordeaux's "Night Of The Whorror Hoppers").
Voodoun Blues marks a completely arty debut by Mundae and contains lots of off-speed imagery, no dialogue, lots of bizarre stop-motion animation, and a strong music score (by Tim McBride) to tell the brief tale of a scorned lover (Katie Bordeaux) taking voodoo revenge on her former beau (Mundae).
Shot in 16mm this has a grainy, unstable look that works for the subject and shows that Mundae knows her way around a camera to make a compelling short and giving us some hope that she'll be able to pull away from doing (mostly) lame erotic movies to actually direct something of value.

However, Hinduism, say, is very different from Voodoun, if you see what I mean.
And you have to remember that christanity and islam go back to the semites who at first probably worshipped a number of gods, but all eventually lost favour to Yahveh, the sun god, who became the god of mainstream religion.

Chant may be the a capella voices of monks singing Gregorian chant, while other chanters are accompanied by drums and rattles, flutes and whistles, harmoniums and tambouras, bells, bowls, harps, and the unique timbre of the countless other instruments indigenous to every culture.
Chants serve many purposes: telling stories such as the mythic tale of Lord Rama and Sita in the great Indian epic the Ramayama, casting out disease in the healing chants of the Siberian shaman, instructing young family members in the proper patterns for fine Kashmiri carpets, or inducing trance in Haitian voodoun.
Chant is used to quiet the mind, open the heart, uplift the spirit, and mourn the dead.

However, my main purpose is to fill out a minor WoD mistake: the Samedi and Serpents of the Light are not the largest group in the WoD to practice Voodoun as a magical tradition.
(See the Book of Crafts for Mage.) I believe this number is brought about by counting every person who believes that voodoun really works and who regularly participates in it's rituals.
However, even if you only counting those mortals who are partially or fully Awake, I believe the numbers would be of magnitudes greater than the size of the Samedi or Serpents of the Light.
