Voronezh (Воро́неж) is a large city in the south of Central Russia, not far from Ukraine.
It is located on the river Voronezh in 12 km away of the emptying of Voronezh River in Don and is the administrative center of Voronezh Oblast.
For the first time Voronezh was mentioned in Hypatian Codex under 1177; in 1585 was founded by tsar Feodor I as a fortress protecting the Russian state from the raids of Crimean and Nogay Tatars.
