Voskhod programme - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Voskhod development was both a follow-on to the Vostok programme, and a recycling of components left over from that programme's cancellation following its first six flights.
The Voskhod spacecraft was basically a Vostok spacecraft that had a backup, solid fuel retrorocket added to the top of the descent module.
Once both goals were realised, the program was subsequently abandoned following the change in Soviet leadership, which was less concerned about stunt and prestige flights, and allowed the Soviet designers to concentrate on the Soyuz programme.

 Voskhod 2
Voskhod 2 was a Soviet manned space mission.
After his ten minutes outside the Voskhod, Leonov found that his suit had stiffened to the point where he could not re-enter the airlock.
After coming back inside, there were problems with sealing the hatch properly, and this was followed by a troublesome re-entry, when like some earlier Vostok spacecraft, the Voskhod's descent module did not separate cleanly.

 Voskhod
The Voskhods were adaptations of the single place Vostok spacecraft meant to conduct flights with up to three crew and for space walks in advance of US Gemini program.
This delay was due to the layout of Voskhod, which left the Vostok cabin instruments and Vzor visual orientation device in their original place, but mounted the crew seats perpendicular to the original orientation of the Vostok ejection seat.
Voskhod s/n 5, 6, and 7 are to be completed in October, November, and December 1965; and s/n 8 and 9 in February and March 1966.

Soviet space program - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Following the global propaganda success of the first Sputnik, Korolyov was charged to accelerate the manned program, the design of which was combined with the Zenit program to produce the Vostok spacecraft.
There was a success with the joint flight of Soyuz 4 and Soyuz 5 in January 1969 that tested the rendezvous, docking and crew transfer techniques that would be used for the landing but the failures of the N-1 unmanned test flights meant that the US inevitably beat the Soviets to the moon.
The Voskhod program was cancelled after two manned flights due to the change of Soviet leadership and the near fatality of the second mission.

 Voskhod
The Voskhods were adaptations of the single place Vostok spacecraft meant to conduct flights with up to three crew, conduct space walks, and fly manned missions of up to three weeks duration in advance of the US Gemini program.
The Voskhods were heavier than Vostok, and had to be launched by the 11A57 launch vehicle, with a much larger third stage than the 8A92 used for the Vostoks.
Voskhod 3 and on were to be equipped with a new environmental control system, allowing up to 21 days life support for two crew.

This program consisted of 40 flights during the fourteen years of first stage of the program, in which the Soyuz capsules were used.
This joint program between the two world-wide powers of the space, until that moment totally rival, meant a very important landmark in the history of the astronautics, as well as in the one of the cold war.
This program included between its primary targets the study from the space of different scientific fields, such as communications, Biology, medicine, physics, etc. In addition, this project allowed to the USSR the improvement of the political and economic relations with the mentioned countries, as well as an important technological collaboration.

The Voskhod programme (Восход, translated as "Sunrise") was a Soviet manned space flight project.
It was a development of and a follow-on to the Vostok programme.
Both were realised and the programme was then abandoned to concentrate on the Soyuz programme with the ultimate (unrealised) objective of putting a Soviet cosmonaut on the Moon as well as due to the EVA problems on Voskhod 2.

The American Gemini Program was ready to begin in 1964 and the idea of his rivals achieving a space first by placing two astronauts in o rbit in one craft was an anathema to the Soviet Premier.
Voskhod 1 was launched on a new rocket, the SL-4 Soyuz s pace launcher on 12 October 1964.
Although a Voskhod 3 had been planned it was promptly cancelled at the end of 1965 and all Soviet efforts concentrated on the new Soyuz program to get cosmonauts to the Moon.

Even though the missions of Voskhod 4 and 5 are not yet clear, Tyulin wants to settle on Beregovoi and Katys for Voskhod 4, and Ponomaryova and Solovyova for Voskhod 5.
Tyulin reveals that Voskhod 3 should be completely integrated and ready to go by the end of April, but the flight will be pushed back even farther than that.
The Voskhod program was delayed, then destroyed by OKB-1's insistence on inclusion of their poorly thought-out and developed experiment in artificial gravity.

The Voskhod rocket (Russian: Восход, translated as "Sunrise") was a derivative of the Soviet R-7 ICBM designed for the human spaceflight programme but later used for launching Zenit reconnaissance satellites.
It combined the R-7 with an upper stage that had been originally designed to launch interplanetary probes.
There was only one main variant of the Voskhod, designated 11A57.

Spaceflight :Early Soviet Human Spaceflight Program
After a one-year long flight-test program, during which seven Vostoks were launched with varying degrees of success, on April 12, 1961, the first piloted Vostok spaceship lifted off with cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, a 27-year-old Air Force major.
Although she was ill for part of the flight, her mission was yet another in a series of spectacular firsts for the Soviets that gave the impression of an expanding and ambitious space program.
These were, of course, in addition to the vast program to send cosmonauts to the Moon using the N1 launch vehicle and space station programs such as Salyut, Almaz, and Mir.

Even as the Vostok and Mercury programs were entering their operational phases, engineers in the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. were undertaking the design of a second generation manned spacecraft.
Voskhod II overshot the recovery area and landed in a dense forest on the snow-covered slopes of the Ural Mountains.
The reason for this inefficient set up resulted from the speed with which the Voskhod programme was conceived and had to be executed to be effective.
