Motion of no confidence - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A Motion of No Confidence, also called a Motion of Non Confidence, is a parliamentary motion traditionally put before a parliament by the opposition in the hope of defeating or embarrassing a government.
Where a government has lost the confidence of the responsible house (i.e., the directly elected lower chamber which can select and dismiss it, though in some states both houses of parliament are responsible) a head of state may have the constitutional right to refuse a request for a parliamentary dissolution, so forcing an immediate resignation.
The cases in which a Motion of No Confidence have passed are generally those in which the government party has a slim majority which is eliminated by either by-elections or defections.

Constructive Vote of No Confidence - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Constructive Vote of No Confidence (in German: konstruktives Misstrauensvotum) is a specialty of the 1949 German constitution, the Grundgesetz (Basic Law).
The vote was highly influenced by tactics; although being secret, the voting of the CDU was exposed by the coalition mostly abstaining from the vote.
The vote was not as tricky technically as the earlier one since it was clear this time that the FDP wanted to switch over to a coalition with the CDU and was already in negotiations at the time the vote happened.

Avoiding a Vote of No Confidence (and Surviving if One Occurs)
Unions have often taken no-confidence votes for the specific purpose of requesting that the chief be removed from office because of his or her perceived lack of leadership.
While there are no doubt others who share this councilman's view, most observers see a vote of no confidence as a critical, disruptive event in the lives of the chief, the organization, and the community as a whole.
In addition to the negative impact a vote of no confidence generally has on the chief professionally, this action can be so demoralizing as to place an intense strain on him or her that extends to the entire family.

When the government has a large overall majority they are able to count on the voting strengths of their supporters in the Commons, ensuring that their legislation is passed in substantially the same form as originally proposed.
This may happen if a resolution of 'no confidence' is passed or if a proposal which the Government considers so vital to its policy that it has made it a matter of confidence is rejected.
The Opposition's ability to defeat the Government in a vote of 'no confidence' depends on the relative voting strengths in the Commons.
