		A voxel (a portmanteau of the words volumetric and pixel) is a volume element, representing a value in three dimensional space.
		Voxels are frequently used in the visualisation and analysis of medical and scientific data.
		Voxels can contain multiple scalar values what essentially is a vector data; in the case of ultrasound scans with B-mode and Doppler data, density, and volumetric flow rate are captured as separate channels of data relating to the same voxel positions.

		Also, voxels are actually a target of the future, not of the past.
		The problem with implimentation is it requires large amounts of memory (X1xY1xZ1), but overcomming that limitation gives you very realistic objects that can be "opened" and broken apart to reveal the innards.
		Nvidia has experiemented with rendering voxels in hardware, and there are software packages available to actually use the nvidia GPU to start moving back to voxels.

		This however utilizises KallistiGL for Hardware rendering of the raycasts used to draw the landscape, and produces decent framerates on the dreamcast due to extensive use of the sh4 fpu.
