  Voyager program information - Search.com
Voyager is also the name of a planned series of unmanned probes to Mars, cancelled in 1968.
Voyager was actually a scaled back version of the Grand Tour program of the late 1960s and early 1970s to send a pair of probes to fly by all the outer planets (scaled back because of budget cuts).
In late 2003, Voyager 1 began sending data that seemed to indicate it had crossed the termination shock, but interpretations of this data were in dispute.

Each mission had a satellite designed to photograph the surface of Mars from orbit, and to act as a communication relay for the Viking lander that each mission carried.
The Viking program grew from NASA's earlier, and more ambitious Voyager Mars program, which was not related to the successful Voyager deep space probes of the late 1970s.
The primary objectives of the Viking orbiters were to transport the landers to Mars, perform reconnaissance to locate and certify landing sites, act as a communications relays for the landers, and to perform their own scientific investigations.
